Philanthropy
Philanthropy is one of the key pillars of a strong Fraternity. In Alpha Delta Phi we take our motto Manus Multae Cor Unum (Many Hands One Heart) seriously, by committing our time to worthy endeavors. There are two types of philanthropy that the brotherhood encourages: volunteering as a group and pursuing individual volunteering causes.
Chapter Initiatives:
Alpha Delt’s are well known in the community for giving a helping hand to many different projects.
- Every weekend, a rotating group of Brothers volunteer for a shift at a downtown Eastside soup kitchen, the Salvation Army Harbour Light.
- We organize an annual Car Smash Event, raising money for the Uganda Rural Fund.
- We are very active participants in many Greek System philanthropy events, usually with multiple teams, including: Delta Gamma Anchorsplash, Alpha Delta Pi Diamond Ball, Theta Rodeo Rampage, Kappa Kappa Gamma Book Drives, Gamma Phi Beta Mr. Greek, Order of Omega Songfest, Alpha Gam Slam, and Alpha Phi Dating Game.
- As part of the Easter Seals 24hr Relay the Brothers put on charity car washes and parties to raise money for disabled children to go to camp.
- Annual donations to our KIVA fund.
Member Initiatives:
Individual members of Alpha Delta Phi donate vast amounts of time and energy to leadership positions in a variety of charitable and volunteer organizations, some of which include:
- St. John’s Ambulance
- Youth Canada
- Model United Nations
- FirstWeek UBC
- Orientations UBC
- The Ubyssey School Paper
- UBC REC
- LiNK (Liberty in North Korea)
It really is an amazing experience to see a group of young men who are so excited and passionate about volunteering. Each year, a new group of initiates bring fresh ideas and fresh attitudes to Philanthropy, and for this reason we are one of the most active philanthropic bodies at UBC.
