Philanthropy Update- Summer 2009
This summer has been an excellent time for Philanthropy at Alpha Delta Phi. Firstly, Brother Andrew King organized 12 fellow brothers to volunteer for Variety’s Boat for Hope at the Point Grey Yacht Club. This event allows hundreds of physically disabled children a chance at fun on the high seas, as they are taken out on boats at the Yacht Club, and enjoy a Pirate themed day in the sun. The Brothers worked from 7am to 2pm: setting up tents, game stations, and wiring of electricity. It is of note that many Brothers took time off work to volunteer their time for this event.
Alpha Delt’s third year of participating in the Easter Seals 24hr Relay was the best year yet, with over $900 raised to the cause of sending disabled children to camp. We were partnered with the lovely ladies of Gamma Phi Beta, and they were of great help with raising money this year, as well as great partners at the relay. The relay itself made over $1.1 million this year.
Our KIVA fund has had its first repayment, and has now been reloaned to another deserving person. We will continue to grow our fund over the coming years, and it will be able to reach and help more and more people in the process.
